Shirley and Edward

Shirley is a bioinformatician at Tufts University and Edward is a senior scientist at a biotech company in Cambridge. We came to Boston 11 years ago and have lived here since then.

Why did you decide this was the right time to buy and sell?

We had been looking for new properties for 2 years, but were not sure about what the perfect home was for us. We kept going to open houses, and in different areas, to explore the options and think about strategies. Finally, this year, we were confident  that we would make the right decision. The timing also aligned well with our career development so we decided to pull the trigger.

Why Rachael and MA Properties Real Estate?

We met Rachael at an open house two years ago and were impressed by her experience and professional skills in real estate. She is knowledgeable about the market and strategy, and our communication with her was very smooth. Rachael also walked us through the capabilities of MA Properties and the service that they could provide. We were convinced that MA Properties would provide us with all the professional support during the purchase and sale process.

Walk me through how Rachael prepared your home to sell? What stood out to you?

Rachael coordinated with the MA Properties Team to help us repair and stage our house which made it look completely different. She also recorded a short video prior to putting the house on the market. All the strategies paid off when we had more people than we expected coming to the open houses right after the July 4th long weekend.

What surprises and challenges did you encounter during the buying and selling process?

Selling a house involves coordinating a lot of activities such as repairing, cleaning, staging, open houses, etc. A plan must be made beforehand, but it also needs to be flexible enough to accommodate mistakes and unexpected events.

What are your top tips when buying and selling?

When selling a house, you need to understand the market and who would be your potential buyers, and then prepare and present your house accordingly.

When buying a house you need to understand what your needs are, such as, what is a must, what is “nice to have”, and what is unacceptable. And, use your own standard to evaluate each property. You don’t want to put in a crazy offer, but you also don’t want to overthink about if you got the best deal.
